In-School Programs

Because We Care/Heard in Rye

The committee organizes meetings, community events, parent workshops, and student-led activities.  Topics are chosen to meet the current needs of the membership. In the past topics have included bullying, teenage depression, hosting teenage parties, and social media.  Most meetings/events are in the evening.  For Heard in Rye, we work with the Heard in Rye speaker series for parents to bring speakers to the community.

Class Parents

For Kindergarten through 4th grade, with direction for teachers, Class Parents organize class parties and celebrations throughout the year. In Fifth Grade, the Fifth Grade Affairs team designs and handles the production of the 5th Grade Yearbook and organizes year-end activities and celebrations.  The Middles School Affairs team organizes and runs age-appropriate events for Middle School students including the Middle School Halloween Spooktacular in October and the Middle School Activity Night in January.

Environmental/Recycling

Educates students and families on recycling and environmental issues at DW and Bellows. Events include twice-yearly "Walk to School Weeks" as well as a holiday Coat Drive.  This committee also promotes “green” efforts at all schools and assist in preparing for Earth Week celebrations.

Circus Arts Program

The PTSA supports a week-long circus program for the fourth grade, which culminates with a Circus Performance for parents held in the HS Gymnasium.

Garden Club

The Daniel Warren Peace Garden is located on the school playground.  The goal of this school-wide initiative is for all DW students to experience a part of the gardening process – digging, planting, cultivating, harvesting – while learning about plant life, biodiversity, natural pest control, and more.  Volunteers are always welcome – no experience or green thumb required!  Get involved by working on daily maintenance, prepping, and putting the garden to bed during the lunch/recess hour.

Health and Wellness

These PTSA Committee Heads work on events that promote healthy eating choices and physical fitness at DW, Bellows, and MS/HS.

Senior Send Off

The PTSA helps to coordinate the Senior Send-off luncheon. The event is traditionally held at Rye Beach Park where students receive and sign their yearbooks.  This Committee also works with they Rye Neck Booster Club on the Senior Love Letter project.
